TARADALE CREEKS

Question of Control The control of creeks in the Taradale district is to be discussed at a conference to be held between tbe Hawke's Bay County Clerk, Mr W. J. O'Connell, tbe secretary of the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board, Mr W. J. Pallot. and the solicitors of the council and board. The matter was mentioned at yesterday's meefing of the County Council. A letter was read from the Rivers Board stating tliat it could not accept auy responsibility l'or the control of creeks in that district, "We are up a treo so far as this is concerned," said the county chairman, Mr F. B. Logan, yesterday. "We cannot take any action becauso the creeks do not belong to us." Cr. C. Lassen: They are not creeks; only drains. " "At any rate they are water courses," replied Mr Logan. This is a matter that wants arguing out between Mr O'Connell and Mr PalJot.'J Cr. W. Tucker; These two officers can merely interpret the Act. We Bhould get the council's solicitors to look into the question as well. Mr Logan: Very well, tlien, we'll ask our solicitors (also tho solicitors of the Rivers Board) to eonfer with tbem also.
