Ho said that the present shortage was due to the curtailment of pufchases of California fruit. due to the exceptionaTTy Iiigh cost brought about by a crop shortage in U.S.A. following the disastrous season there, and, secondly, to tho late maturity of the Fijian oranges and mandarins. Apart from the small shipraent expected shortly from Papeete no [ relief 'can be expected to the present shortage untit the Monterey arrives from Los Angeles on April 16.
