Air-Rifles Not Safe In Hands of Children MAGISTRATE'S WARNING

AUCKLAND, This Day. The danger of parents allowing young children to use air rifles was exemplified when a boy of 14 appeared in the Children 's Court as the result of seriously injuring another lad in the eye. The Magistrate, Mr. Wyveru Wilson, stressed the responsibility of parents, stating that an air rifle was a firearm within the meauihg o£ ihe Act and a dangerous weapon in the hands of children. The damage in this case was done while a group of boys was playing in a city park. The Child Welfare Officer remarked that in the course of his inquiries he had found that a considerable number of parents did not realise their Tesponsibility in the matter and were not aware that it was an offence for children to have in their possession air rifles.' The Magistrate directed that _ Ijie Press be asked to give some publicity to the case, thus indicating the soriousness of the offenca,
