Dramatic Statement from the Dock (Received 12, 8.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 9. 1 Sydney Aubrey Maddocks, formerly 1 Road Transport Commissioner, was convicted on an unsavoury charge, and was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. In a dramatic statement from the dock, Maddocks said some time ago his offieial duties had becoma so wearying that he felt he was bordering on a complete breakdown. He had tried drinking heavily without getting relief. A youth whom he had been trying to help had quietly planned his destruction. Maddocks denied any association between the youth and himself. The youth, in evidence, admitted having been deported frpm New Zealand.
