Competition Fairly Keen SHEEP AND LAMBS UP

GISBORNE, This Day. Eollowiag ou the xecent cattle fair, there was only a small yarding at the weekly sale at Matawhero yesterday, but competition was fairly keen and good clearances wero effected, sheep and lambs being up to 1/6 higher. Prices realised were:— r-Beef.^-The -11 head of fat cattle yarded sold &s> follows: Three fair flnish Jersey cows, £2 10/- j 1 big, fair finish, Holstein cow, £3; 1 fair finish Jersey, £2 7/6; 2 medium finish Jersey cows, £2 7/-; 2 Jersey cows, £2 10/- and £2 '6/-; - medium finish Jersey heifer, £2 15/-; 1 Jersey vealer. (p.), £1 10/-. Fat sheep. — For an entry of only 26 fat sheep ewes made 20/- and 20/6, odd heavy wethers 27/6, and one good lamb 24/-. Priees: — Ewes: Eight at 20/-, 6 at 20/6, 6 first and second grade ewes, 18/8, Other sorts: One lamb, 24/-; 2 wethers, 27/6; 2 wethers, 22/3. Store sheep.-— Lambs; One hundred and forty-nine, big fraroes, shorn, good store condition, 17/9; 387 shorn, on account of . Messrs. Hutchinson Bros., big frame, good store condition, 19/-;; 124, shorn, fairly good frame, fair condition, 14/11; 121, shorn, fairly good siz© and condition, 15/6; 117, fat and forward, mostly Southdowns, 18/-; 100, shorn, good size, fairly good condition, 17/7; 225, Southdowns, fairly good size and condition, 14/3; 62, woolly, fairly good size and condition, 15/7; 84, good, sturdy, shorn, 16/10. Wethers; > One hundred and twenty-four, all f resh, some fat, 23/11. Breeding ewes: One hundred and one, r.w. Southdown rams, fair, mouths, fairly good condition, 17/-;; 63, god mouths, r.w, Roinney rams, medium to good condition, 18/6; ;34, r.w. Romney rams, good teeth, little frame, all condition, many young, 18/-. Empty ewes; Fifty-one, fair condition, 11/6; 23, good solid condition, 15/5; 17, good frame, good store condition, 17/3. Ewe lambs ; Seven, woolly extra (p), 23/-. Pigs.— The offering of 70 pigs comprised slips and weaners. There was a very poor marlcet for weaners., but slips sold fairly well. The prices were; Two average Taxnworth slips, 10/-; 3 small, average condition stores, 16/-; 6 good Tamworth weaners, 7/-; 4 ordinary condition Tamworth slips, 10/- and 8/6; 3 rough White slips, no bid; 6 average Tamworth weaners (p), 5/-; 2 Tamworth small stores' 14/-; 2 Whites, small stores, 9/-; 6 good condition slips, 17/-; 5 big, good condition, Tamworth crossweaners, 9/-; 4 solid White weaners,
7/6; 5 fair weapers, gome White, 5/and 3/-; ;7 good Berkshire weauers, 8>; 7 good weaners, Berkshire and Tamworth, 6/-; 5 average Tamworth slips, 14/6; 3, tpps of last, 14/-. >
