NAPIER TOWNSWOMEN GARDENERS MEET

The second meeting of the present season of the gardening eircle of the Townswomen's Guild was iield in St. John's Schoolroonii, Napier, on Thursday Jast. Mrs Pegram presided over a good attendance of members. . The coming horticultural show wae discussed. Mrs Mackie was the speaker for the afternoon, her subject being ''Fuchsia§," which proved most instructive and interesting, Mrs Mackie ofi'ered to ' assist members in any way in the fas-v cinating hobby of growing this plant. The competitions for the afternoon wero most popular, heing "basket of fruit," and "vase of yellow ilowers," there bemg six entries in each. They resulted asv i'ollow : — Basket of fruit : Mrs Vase of yellow flowers: Mrs Hurst 1, Briiirh^ I, Mrs Mayo 2, Mrs Orr 3 Mrs Oorner 2, Mrs Briarley 3. Mr Theakstone' judged the competition and also gave very helpful advice. The ''Best flov^r in the garden" competition was won by Miss Glenny. A hearty vote of tiianks was accorded Mrs Mackie and Mr Theakstone. Afternoon tea jfcjd a social chat broqght an end to a very happy and entertaining evening. An invitation . was extended to the section by Mr C. Corner to inspect the Borough nurseries at Nelson Taik, on April ltt.
