H.B. JOCKEY CLUB
The committee of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club met in the club's office at the racecourse at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Mr G. D. Beatson, the president, was in the chair, also present being Messrs F. P. Kelly, W. J. Wood, T. V. Morrin, T. S. Roulston, T. H. Lowry, G. A. Maddison, G> Ebbett, J. W. Wedd. Racing Conference advised that remits for the annual conference on July 9 must be received by May 20. It was resolved to draft a proposal regardingj the rule governing the starting of races. In view of the autumn meeting being held early in May the next committee meeting was fixed for May 14. Advice was received from the Racing Conference that Wanganui and Napier Park had been permitted to alter the dates of their winter meetings. The chairman reported on this matter and his action was confirmed. The conference wrote regarding clubs receiving nominations and acceptances in accordance with the rules. The subscription to the issue of the monthly Racing Calendar io be published in its new form was authorised, and a letter from the publishers was also received. In response to the Prime Minister's appeal for a contribution to the George V. Memorial, 10 guineas was voted. The chairman reported on, the progress that had been made in the work of extending the pipe rail to the course proper, and had instructed the oustodian to erect g, further portion, The action of the course committee in this matter was confjrmed. • Dates of race meetings for the 193738 season wero deferred until the next meeting of the committee. The minutgs of the prpgramme committee were read and confirmed. Proposals added over £400 to the stahes and it was also arranged that the Hawke's Ba.y Hurdles be pun on the second day and the Hawke's Bay Steeplechase be run the first day. The Corinthian Plate is to be over a distance of one and ahalf miles. The president and members of the committee made complimentary references to the services rendered by the retiring secretary, and presented him with handsome farewell gifts in token of tlieir high opinion with many good wishes.
