Wild Chase Wins Awapuni Cup BIG DOOK'S HANDICAP

PALMERSTON N., This Day. The weather was delightfully fine and rather too warm for the opening day of the Manawatu Ractng Club's autumn meeting, and the course was never in better condition. There was a very big attendance and the totalisator handled £17,778 10/-, as compared with £10,225 on the corresponding day last year, representing an increase of £7,553 10/-. The principal event of the day, the Awapuni Cup, was won by Sir Charles Clifford's brilliant three-year-old, Wild Chase; tfie Prince of Wales Handicap by the Gisborne-trained Big Dook; the open sprint by Ben Braggie, and the two-year-old event, by Bluffer. Ther'e were one or two surprises, but it was a great day's racing, and close finishes were numeroua. Detailed resuits are as under: — KARERE HURDLES HANDICAP, of £175; 1£ miles. 3 EOYAL MIMIC (D. J.
