Work During Past Month GRANT TO LIBRARY The monthly meeting of the Havelock North Town Board was held last night, the ehairman, Mr H. R. von Dadelszen, presiding over Messrs. J. J. Nimon, W. Paton, A. R. Greenwood, A. Christie, and A. Toop. The clerk, Mr W. A. Anderson, was also present. A petition was received frOrn residents in the Te Aute road,_asking that the board consider the layiiig down of a foot-path from the first to the second bridges. It was decided that the board was sympathetio to .the petition, and advised that the matter would be reviewed by the roads committee. it was decided to defer consideration of making grants to the King George V Memorial appeal and the Hawke's Bay Art Gallery and Museum, until a later meeting. A grant of £13 was made to .the Havelock North Library for the purpose of employing an attendant to control the library, under the supervision of the library committee. The ehairman said that this grant would he for a year, and futur'e assistance would depend upon the result of the coming year's working of- the library. Accounts totalling £1710 6/- were pased for payment. The annual balance sheet was tabled, and will be considered at the next meeting of the board. The clerk presented jbhe following report, which was adopted. — -Roads; The new filling on Campbell road has been metalled and will be graded at the first opportunity, The shoulders of Hastings i;oad have been built up in red metal and will be rolled after the first -rain. The new sealed roads are standing up well every where; a start has been made with 'draining storm water off the tar sea! where necessary. Public Health: The sanitary inspector reports that one ckse of notifiable disease has been reported ; so far no case of infantile paralysis has been reported within the Town district. Domain: All of the new levelled po,rtion of the playing field has been sown in lawn yrass. Drainage has been attended to. The cricket pitch wjll be top-dressed next week. This should leave the property in good shape for the winter. So far no sports body has applied for the use of tlie ground this winter. Cemetery : All paths in Block A have been sealed as directed and the widening of the turn at the top of the drive is well forward. Water supply: 4,369,000 gallons of water were pumped and 4,292,000 gallons were consumed, leaving a surplus of 77,000. General: For the year ended March 31 the following licences were issued: Motor drivers 414, heavy traffic 65, drainlayers 7, dogs registered 93. The cemetery committee presented the following report: All paths in Block A have now been sealed and the job is a most satisfactory one. We recommend that the clerk be instructed to prepare for sealing all the paths in Blocks B. and C. and w© ask that the board authorise our committee to spend a further £30 on the sealing of these patlis. Tlie work of widening the turn at the top of the main drive is well in hand and will make a considerable improvement to that part of the cemetery. The trees in the new plantation on Mr Nelson's boundary are holding their own but are badly in need of rain. The cemetery, generally is in its usual first-class order.
