CIVIC SQUARE

Plan Now to Hand ATTRACTIVE FOUNTAIN The plans for the proposed development of the Civic Square in Hastings have been received by the Mayor, Mr G-, A. Maddison, from Mr R. B. Hammond, Director of Town Planning, Wellington, and these will fce submittsd to the Hastings Borough Council at its meeting nextrThursday. This morning Mf Maddison said that the council would probably merely peruse the plans at the next meeting and leave consideration of them until drawing up the estimates for the coming year's programme. of works. On the comprehensive plan provision is made for a library building, a most attractive-looking fountajn with coloured lighting, children 's paddling ppol, stone foreeourts and gardens. An alternative plan suggests a lay-out of tha area which it is proposed to set aside for the library, in the event of ihe council deciding in the meantime not to go ahead with the erection oi that building.
