Flying-Officer A. E. Willis has been appointed assistant instructor to the Wellington Aero Club. The Rev. J. M. Beaufort, joint headmaster of St. Peter's School, Cambridge, will leave for England on May 19, accompanied by Mrs Beaufort. Mr. Percy W. Tonsbs, of Napier, has o®®11 reluetantly compelled to resipn ihe conductorship of the Hastings Orcliestral Society^ owing to tlie pres* sure of his other duties. The society was formed by Mr. Tombs in 1907, and, apart from a two years ' recess, has been in existence ever since. Mr. Tombs conducted the society for 20 years of its career. Mr. Cedric White, who has been deputy-conductor for the past five years, has suceeeded Mr. Tombs as conductor. Mr. Tombs hopes to continue his interest in the societv by playing in the orchestfa at the concerts.

Mr J. G. Stewart, who has been on the fitaffi of Jas. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., Port Ahuriri, for the. past 37 years and who is retiring,. was mett by his fellow employees, and pfesented by them with a crystal decanter and set of tumblers ns a mark of the esteem in which he is held by the firm and its employees. The presentation was made by the manager, Mr. J. Clark, who referred to Mr. Stewart 's long association with the firm, and wished him and his wife a happy time in his retirement t,nd many years in which to enjoy it. Mr. Stewaft replied in suitable terms to the complimentary remarks made and retnrned thanks for the presentation and good wifthes. i
