Ewes Show Substantial Advance BEEF IN DEMAND

•ATJCKLAND, April 7. There was an improved demand for a larger yarding of beef at Westfield today, when values tended to firm after the decline of a week ago. The quality in the ox section was below the usual standard, and many inferior cows were offered. Extra choice ox made 32/- per 1001b., choice and prime, 28/- to 31/-, unftnished 24/- to 27/- ; prime cow and heifer beef 24/- to 28/- ; unfinished 15/to 23/-. Extra heavy prime steers made £12 to £13 15/-; heavy £11 to £12; medfum £10 to £11 12/6 ; light £8 15/to £10 10/-, unfinished £4 10/- to £8 10/- ; extra heavy prime cows and heifers £7 15/- to £10 15/- ; heavy £6 10/- to £7 17/6; liglxter £5 SJ- tp £6 12/6; ligiht £4 to £5 15/-; unfinished £2 10/- to £4 5/-. Sheep and lambs were in short supply, although the quality suffered nothing in consequence. Wethers made late rates, and ewes were dearer by as much as 4/- a head. Good lambs were in demand on a par with the recent high leyel. Extra heavy wethers made 32/to 36/6; heavy 30/- to 32/6; medium 27/- to 30/-; light 25/- to 26/9 ; unfinished 20/6 to 26/6 ; extra heavy ewes 25/- to 29/3; heavy 22/6 to 26/6; medium 21/- to 25/-; light 19/6 to 22/9; unfinished to 19/6 ; heavy prime lambs 20/- to 31/6; unfinished 5/- to 19/9. A full supply of fair quality calveB sold under firm demand, all classes realising late quotations, ' Runners mad© £2 5/- to £6 17/-; heavy -vealers £3 18/- to £5 7/-; medium £3 6/- to £3 14/-; light £2 11/- to £3; smaller £1 17/- to £2 5/-; imfinished £1 1/- to £1 15/-; bobby and rough, 5/- to 18/-. Porkers were plentiful in a full yarding of pigs, and values improved xip fco 2/- a head. Exporters bought a number of baconers, which wero quoted fuily firm. The quality generally was satisfactory. Ghopper-s made £1 5/- to £3 16/-; heavy baponers £3 9/- to £3 14/-; medium £3 4/- to £3 7/-; light £2 16/- to £3 2/-; heavy porkers £2 7/-; light £1 15/- to £2; small and unfinished £1 5/- to £1 13/-; stores 16/to 22/-; slips 8/- to 16/-; weaners 2/to 8/- ; baconers averaged ojd to 5fd. ; porkers 5fd to 6d. per 1b.
