OPENING OF SEASON
Matches in Hastings The Rugby f ootball season will be opened in Hastings to-morrow afternoon when four of the local teams will be seen in action at Nelson Park conimeneing at 3 p-m. On No. 1 ground M.A.O. and Hastings will provide the entertainment. As far as is known there has been no change of note in either of these teams, and being the opening match, they should be evenly matehed. The Maoris will still have the services of Tori Eeid and Everard Jackson, and with theee two to lead them they should prove a very hard "team to beat throughout the season. The Hastings team will he very similar to last year, and as they were then a young improving team, they should build up into a solid combiuation before the season is far advaneecl. On the adjoining aica the villagers from Havelock will endeavour to lower the colours of Hastings Old Boys. The village team will be very similar to that of last year, and as they are a young team and showed maTked improvement last season it can be expected that they will give a good aceount of themselves. In the Old Boys ranks one or two new faces will be seen, but until they have been seen in action it is hard to judge their ability. Laet season they did not live up to expectations, but this year may see a vast improvement on that form. The game should be Very evenly contested with the result in doubt to the end. ' For the early arrivals there will be a friendly junior game between the Hastings Club and a team from Ongaonga on No. 1, and Hastings Old Boys and Haumoana on No. 2 ground.
