AUCKLAND, Last Kight. An intimation that the Government had in view legislation to elinpnata , slum areas under which it would pay - for the value of the land but not for worthless buildings, was given by Mu J. A. The fact -had been appreciated that the Government would not always have to build railways andl roads, but that it was necessaiy to start a secondafy attack on unemployment. The following resolution was adopted:— "That this meeting of Auckland citizens thanks Mr Lee for his infonnative and inspiring address and con-' gratulates the Labour Government on the establishfnent of a housing scheme designed to produce houses of high quality for the people of Kew Zealand. It also congratulates the Labour Pariy -on its intention to fixake early action, towaTd slum clearanees." Three cheers were also given for .th® | Labour Party.
