BOMBERS COLLIDE

Four U.S. Naval Fliers Killed CRASH INTO SEA (Eeceived 8, 8.45 a.m,) SAN DIEGO, April 7. The naval air station reported that four navy fliers were killed in a headofl collision between . two bombing planes from the carrier Lexington 40 niiles off San Pedro, both sinking after the impact. One body was recovered. The planes had just left the Lexington and were moving towards squadron fomation. « They were land planes and sank the instant they hit the water. Boat crews left the Lexington immediately and searched for more than an hour but had only recovered a single body when re.. called. The water was very deep. The Lexington returned to port and sent the body ashore. Two of the victims were lieutenants and the others machinists. One r ' the machinists had served more than 19 years and would have retired in a feW weeks. The authorities have withhdld tho dc tails of the offieial explanation.
