Accident at Ormondville. An accident occurred on Monday afternoon, when a car which had been standing by the Ormondville railway station, swerved suddenly across the road and struck a small car which was passing. The driver of the big car ap-, peared to lose control of his vehic'e while endeavouring- to turn it, and so forceful was the impact that the small car was turned completely roand, facing tha opposite way to that in which it was travelling when 6truck. Fortunately, no-one was hurt. Missjoner's Talk. On Tuesday Captain Kee, of the Church Army, arrived in Ormondville to give an account of the work of this orgauisation in New Zealand. In the afternoon he spoke to the children after school, and in the evening gave a talk illugtrated by lantern slides in the parish hall. There was a giood attendance although the night was cold and ehowery. Ormondville Town Board. The Ormondville Town Board held its monthly meeting at which Messrs H. J. Newling (chairman), Chapman, Berkahn and Fothergill were present, An- apology was received from Mr HR. Benbow. Accounts amounting to £15 were passed for payment. One building permit was issued. The board regretted the illness of the clerk, Miss Annie Webb, who is in hospital, and wished*- her a speedy recovery. Metalling necessary before winter sets in, and clearing of water-tables and footpaths was left for the chairman to arrange Makotuku Sunday School. The annual treat for the Makotuku Anglican Sunday School was held at "Springbank," the home ot Mr T. Fothergill. The weather was unfavourable, though in the early afternoon it was possible to get off a few races, and outdoor games. When continuous rain set in the party was taken indoors." Tea was served, supplemented by a large case of apples given by Mr Fothergill. Songs, and choruses were sung insido when it was impossible to continue outside. The vicar spoke appreciatively of fche work of the superintendent, Miss Schaare, and the teachers, Miss Wilton and Mr C. Fothergjill. Mr Fothergill and family were heartily thanked for the party. Makotuku School. The monthly meeting of the Makotuku School Committee was held " on Monday night. Present: Messrs ,T. Palmer (chairman), M. Cafruthers P. W. Anderson and G. Harding (iion. secretary). Mr A. Nielson, head teach«:r, who was also present, reported as follows : — Number on roll 38, average attendance 35.3. The free .supply of milk to schools was gone into and it was decided to hold the decision over pending further particulars. It was resolved to continue iraprovement of the school garden and trenching, and to sow oats ready for digging^in in the spring. Cards at Norsewood. A large number of "500" card «nthusiasts participafced in the fortnightly tournament at NorseAvood under fche auspices'/of the Women's Insfcitute.- For fche ladies' prize, Mesdames J. R. Thompson and- A. Olsen tied with eight wins out of the usua' 10 games played. On the out Mrs Olsen was the winuer- In the men's section Messrs .Max Mulholland and F. Tarr also tied with eight wins each and the former won on the cut. A tasty suppor was served Mothers' Union. On Tuesday evening a handsome hauner was dedicated to the Wairoa brauvh of the Mothers' Union. The eeromony took placo in St. Paul's Anglican Church, and there was a good muster of members. The Yenerable Archdeacon Butterfield, who has not long returned from Woodville, carried out this interesting ceremony, assisted by the newly appointed vicar, the Rev. C. E. Hyde.
