NELSON, Last Night. The death occurred last night of Captain William Arthur Wildman, senior, aged 84, veteran master of the Anchor Co. 's steamers. He retired in 1929 with nearly 60 years' service with the company. He had.his first command in 1888 cn the Aorere. He was born ,at Motueka and his early days were spent on sailing ship3 on the Wellington-Nelson ferry service, He crossed Cook Strait about 5000 times, for years spcnding six nights % week in Cook Strait. He leaves one surviving son, Captain W. A. ' Wildman, master of the Anchdr steamer Matangi, also Miss K. Wildman, of Nelson, Mrs 0. A. Pearce, of Nelson, and Mrs W. C. Motion, of Dunedin. His wife and three sons predeceased him. Mr Jack Wildman was lost at sea while serving on a sailing vessel off the African coast, Mr Frederick Wildman was killed in action in France in 1915 and Mr Edward Wildman was killed in an accident On the Arahura when she was On the Wellington patent slip three years ago.
