The need for additional denominations in wage tax stamps was urged at I last evening 's meeting of the Palmerj ston North Chamber of Commerce. At ; J present wage tax stamps are issued in ; J the following denominations;— ld, 3d, ! 4d, 6d, 8d, ls, 2s, 2s 6d, 5s, 10s, £1, £4. In many cases it has been found' neeessary to affix a considerable numberof stamps in wage books to make up fhe, I required amount and. the suggestion, is I made that if an alteration in the de-j nominations could be made, a consider-j able amount of space and time could bei saved. To affix stamps for tax amount- i ing to 9s lld it is neeessary, to get fivej different stamps, whereas only twowould be required if the following de-i nominations were issued:— ld, 2d, 3d, 4d, 5d, 6d, 7d, 8d, 9d, lOd, lld, ls, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, 10s, £1, £4. Members pointed out. that sometimes as many as five stamps were now to be seen on one receipt, whereas only two should be neeessary. The extra cost in printing would be recompensed by time saved at the post. office counter by both purehaser and departmental officer. The suggestion is to be conveyed tq the proper quarters. "Unless," one member facetiously added, "the ujSges tax is meanwhile abolished."
