Government Bill to Give Assistance RENT CONTRIBUTIONS
((Eeeeived 7, 11.55 a.m.) RUGBY, April 6. The House of Commons reassemBled to-day after the Easter holidays. The House' debated the seconcl reading of the Government 'e Bpecial Areas Amendment Bill. TJnder the existing Act various measures to reduce unemployment and improve public health and other services have been initiated in-> volving commitments up to the beginning of last February amounting to about £11,000,000. The placing of Government ordera and the establishment of Government factories in dis? tressed areas have prepaTed the way for
a further advance and, accordingly, under the present Bill the powers of the Comxnissioners have heen extended to include the making of contributions Iot periods not exceeding five years', not only towards income tax and rates but also towards renf payable in respect of new industrial undertakings established in the special areae.
