GERMAN DEFENCE INADEQUATE

Telegraph — Press Assn.— Copyright.)

Must Reach Understanding with Russia LUDENDORFFS RECALL

(By

(Eeceived 5, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, April 4. The Dailly Telegraph 's diplomatic correspondent says that Herr Hitler's military chiefs have convinced him of the Soviet 's formidable military strength, in which he wa3 also influenced by staff reports of the relative efficiency of the German, Eussian, French and Italian equipment "tested" in Spain, indicating that the German, with the possible exception of anti-aircraft defence, is not so good as was expected. Herr Hitler's reconciliation with General Ludendorff was partly attributable

to the Chancellor, under the army's influence, realising the necessity of Teaching a good understanding with Eussia. General Ludendorff has continually urged that Germany should not attach exaggerated importance to Italy 's arms in a European war, but on the contraiy, should seek a rapprochement with Eussia. Germany is shortly tsending to Nanking a military and eiconomic mission aiming at better xelations with China and Japan. A Munich massage states that an early xesult of Hexx Hitler's reconciliation is the Government 's recognition of General Ludendorff 's cult of paganiam, which is now among the xeligious societies protected under the Nazi programme.
