; New Era for Shops in France RESULT OF 40-HOUR WEEK (Eeceived 6, 8.45 a.m.) 1 PABIS, April 4. All the shops in the city except those selling food were closed to-day and are closing to-morrow owing to a decree •nforcing the 40-hour week. Similar arrangements will continue in future and Sunday will be a general closing day throughout France in towns over 10,000 inhahitants, but the second day will be chosen according to local needs. In the hanks and Stock Exchange the the 40-hour week will begin on April 12, closing on Saturdays and Sundays. Another decree prohibits employers in restaurants, places of amusement and transport demanding payment from employees or with-holding part of their wages, thus eliminating workers buyiug employment or subsisting solely on tips.
