VALUE OF CONSCRIPTION
Development of Health and Strength Conscription and. its value. in developing health and strength were mentioned by Mr Peter Ericksen in an address to the Napier Rotary Club yesterday. He spoke of conscription in Denmark ,whereby every man was com-
pelled to serve for two years with one section of the Danish army, and stated that a remarkable difxerence was apparent in the phiysique of the men after their term of service. 44 My term of military service was taken in the Royal Artillery, and the work was very hard," he said. 44 We had training all day, but. I will say this for conscription, although I know that it is not likely in New Zealand, that one would not know the men when they left. It- ntade a substantial differenoe in appearance, bearing, and health. We got nothing for it, but it was a duty .that every man • owed to his country. I think that conscription is still in force in Denmark."
