CUB SWIMMING CONTEST

On Saturday, March 13, the Second Hastings Pack visited the Havelock North Baths to compete with the Havelock Pack. It needed more than the cold atmosphere and water to dampen the cubs' enthusiasm, and they had an enjoyable time. A steaming mug of cocoa and a run round the baths served to warm up those who wer© feeling a bit blue after their swim. Results: Havelock North (H.N.), Second Hastings (H) : — 25 yards freestyle. — Lang (H) 1, P. Leeves (HN) 2, D. Duke (HN) 3 Width, freestyle. — Lang (H) 1, O. Blaekmore (HN) 2, P. Puke (HN) 3. Width, breaststroke. — P. Puke (HN) 1, Lang (H) 2, D. Leeves (HN) 3. Widthi," backstroke.*— -Lang' (H) 1, P. Duke (HN) 2, P. Leeves (HN) 3 Paddlmg-pool dash. — B. Bailey OJN) 1, Phipps (H) 2, T. Atkinson (HN) 3. Diving. — Lang (H) 1, G. Blaekmore (HN) 2, P. Leeves (HN) 3. lielay. — Second Hastings 1, Havelock North 2. Havelock North Pack, was first, with 37 poihts; the Second Hastings Pack gained 31. In the individual points Lang (H) was first with 23; Puke (HN) second with 12, and Leeves (HN) third with 9. All are looking forwards to another "go" next season and there will be quite a number of boya practising so as to be able to represent their Pack then.
