Italian ConsuFs Accidental Revelation (Received 5, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, April 4. Revealing Italy's designs on the Ba-; learic Islands in the Mediterranean off; the coast of Spain, the Manchester Guardian's special correspondent at' Barcelona has published the contents of documents the Italian Consul left behind when he hastily departed from Barcelona after Italy's recognition of General Franco. It disclosed that Italy has been interested in the Balearics for ten years, has persistently investigated foreignj trading activities and has been con-j stantly preoccupied with their political | and strategic importance. j The consul 's dispateh of February l,i 1929, xequests cighered telegraphic particulars of arrivals and departures of foreign warships, while in March, 1935, the consul reported tbe British naval exercises, alluding to their unusual form and strategic purpose.
