SHEEP-DOG TRIALS
Waikoau Club's Meeting The Waikoau Sheep Dog Trial Club's annual dog trials were hgld on Mr, WB. Paterson's "Taihoa" property} Q'utira, last week. The trials were carried out in fine weather throughout, in marked contrast to last year, when rain spoilt the enjoyment of competitors and spectators on the last two days of the trials. The entries were large, and a very high standard of Work was, reached by the leading dogs, The judge was that well-known .collie man, Mr, J. Thom, and his decisions gave general satisfaction. There was a large group of Officials, and their combined efferts lightened the labours of the honorary secretary, Mr. Duncan McKay, stnd contributed ,to a most successful gatharing, the credit for which must be shared by all. The supplying of refreshqjents was in capable Kands, and the many visitors who attended eaeh day had their wapts well catered for. The results of ihe trials were a triumph for the veteran collie judge and competitpr, Mr. W. Whyte, of Napier, who won the long head with his young dog Boy VI., and was placed second in Class II, ehort head and yard, with the same dog, while his old dog Boy was third in each event, With Boy VI Mr, W, Whyte won Mr. L. Lopdell'g eup for most points in Class l and the Paterson Memorial Cup for most points in Classes II and III, Mr, B. James won Mr. H. Young 's cup for (most points in Class 11. Mr. B. Whyte won Mr. L, D. Carter's eup for most poiuta in Class m, huntaway. The annual dog trial dance was heid in tho Kaiwaka Hali ofi Thursday evening, when there- was a very large attendance, including many Napier visitors. The arrangements were well carried out, and assured patrons of an exceedingly pleasant evening. The following are the results of the trials: — CLASS I.— OPEN LONG HEAD. W.
