r™ * AUCKLAND, Last Nignt. ' The match hetween the hi.C.C. 1 and the combined Auckland and Wellington team concluded at Eaen Park to-day, and resultcd in a wm for the visitors by seven wicuets. At the conelusion of the second day's jplay the combined team had scored 22 rnns for the loss of two wickets, In the first inning8 the combined team conn ipilpd 183 and M.C.O. xeplied with 205. When play was resumed to-day the ■ jmajority of the combined players failed- . idismally. Postles added another 12 iruns to his overnight score when. he was iiun out through a brilliant xeturn from Ithe ontfield by Hardstaff. With the dis- ! imissal of Sale for 15, the bowlers were ' iwell in command. Blandford, the Wel1 Hington representative, who was uni jbeaten with 28, played a good innings. He scored weli with strong shots on the leg side and three fours were included in his score. He batted for 62 minutes. Nine wicketa had failen for 87 when Matheson joined Blaiidford and the pair added 36 runa in the brightest partnership of the innings, Mathegon was placed last in batting owing to an injured finger, which he received on jthe previous day in attempting to acjcept a ehance off his own bowling. He jlost his wicket in hitting out and his iscore of 17 included three fours. There were two uuusual incidents jnear the end of the combined team's innjings. Blandford, in attempting to hit jVerity to leg, missed, and appeared to [be bowled when the bails fell off. Sevleral Englishmen started toward the jpavilion under the impression that the linnings had closed and the umpire at itjxe bowler's end, being "unsighted," lappealed to the other umpire who dejcided in favour of the batsman. Soon afterward Matheson played forward to Yerity and missed and the Englishmen appealed when Duekworth removed the bails. The umpire negatived an appeal for stumped which bothj Duekworth and Yerity seemed to Tesent. Verity did not xetire in delivering the1 next ball, but stood at the bowling erease and sent down a full toss which Matheson promptly square cut to thoboundary. Verity appeared reluctant' to continue bowling but Allen was seen' Ito motion him bacK with his hand. Tnc attitude of the bowler in not accepting the decision of the umpire was hard to uuderStand. Yerity again bowled aplendidly, tak(ing five wickets for 42 runs. He spun ithe ball appreeiably and flighted them ejeverly while his faster ball again proved. very troublegome, Verity bowl*d 18.5 overs, eight of which were imaidens. Bims (two for 20 in 12 overs, five of jwhich were maidens) also bowled well. Tlequiring 102 runs to win M.O.C, iOpened with Wyatt and Worthington. iThe batsmen took no risks and after a islow period Wyatt, at 13, was completeliy beaten by a.fast delivery from Simpson. ' Hardstaff gave an early chance and, then threw his wicket away. Worthington (27) freqnently xnisjtimed his shots and he eventually fell to a brilliant running catch by Postles. Leyland (38 not out) gave a sample |Of his best batting form. The Auckland bowlihg was again .steady, Simpson, McCoy and Bush tak!ing one wicket each.
