Markets in the South Reviewed RYEGRASS FIRM
(By Telecraph-
CHBISTCHUROH, Last Night. The grain and produce markets are fairly quiet as they have not yet settled down after the Easter break. It is unlikely that any very active market will now develop for small seeds as it is usual for interest to die out after • Easter. It appears that trade will go on as it has done so far in small quantities 'but fairly steadily. The April increment of a penny went on to milling. wheat. Deliveries have be6n fairly slow as f armers have waited for the. additional money but it is expected that the quantity will increase again. There is still a steady demand for fowi wheat at 5s ld f .o.b. Oats'are firm. There has been very ■little threshing and supplies are not ,plentiful. Byegrass is still firm and meets a .steady enquiry. Akaroa eocksfoot con"tinued to be offered but as the seed is of a poor general sample, there are not many buyers. .The weather has held up the threshing of white clover which is coming in slowly. It is worth 7d to 9d per lb. ' No red clover has ye.t made its appearance. Peas are tuming out fairly well both (in quality and yield. The overseas de•mand is quiet and indications are that fthe price will be below the current New Zealand price of 5s. , Potatoes are firmer than they have been before this season. There have been Tumours of shipments to South America and this has moved farmers to hold. in the meantime and though the demand is small it has been strong senough to lif.t quotations 5s. Some Ibuying has been done. . There appears to be general disconitent with onion xegulations and the jtrade at present is extremely slow.
