An announcement is expected shortly regarding extensive fortifition at Hong Kong likely to involve increased anti-aircraft batteries and expansion of the Koyal Air Force. A Hong Kong messags says that the plans involve the expendituro of £8,000,000 and include the construction of two new forts in addition to one already being built. It is also eonfirmed that Hong Kong in future will be aa important Air Force base. It has long been recognised that Hong Kong is one of the Empire's most vulnerable Bpots ln the Pacific and that it could not be prpteoted at shorfc aotice from Singapore, For this reason fortification is inesoapable.
