H.M.A.S. Waterhen Gives Assistance AIMLESSLY DRIFTING

WELLINGTON, TM» Day. Drifting aimlesgly with her engines fiisabled, the ooastal steamer Holmglen early this morning sought the aid of the combined Australian and New Zealand squadron, which later arrived Ixere, The cruiser Waterhen was dispatched to her assistance and stopd by for tliree hours while the Hobnglen made for shelter. The Holmglen reach«w Queen Charlotte Sound under her own power and shelter there. The Holiugien was du& to reach Wellington to-day. The first sign of distress was noticed by the fleet at one o'clock this morning, flares being sighted and Mqrse signals picjsed up, The Holmglen had apparently heen driftjng with engine tronble sincp about 8 o'clock the previops morning.
