Wool and War.

Speaking at tb© anuual meeting of th© Graziers' Association of Southern Riverina, Victoria, th© preBident, Mr 31 H. Patterson, said a most satisfactory season had been experienced, with good values for wool, but the main factor in the price level was the reatmaittent of nations. It was repeatedly reported in th© daily press that the statistical position of wool was very sound, and that the production of wool was not suffieient to supply the demand. Wool played a most important part in rearmament plans, but how much longer could the nations of the world stand th© strain of an expenditure of close on £3,000,000,000 per annum on rearmament? Without being pessimistio as to the immediat© future, he would ieel much happier if the present price of wool were based on an increased per capita consumptiott of avooI, apart from rearmament. Controlling Foot and Mouth. .The British Ministry of Agriculture'* metliods of attempting to stamp out foot-and-mouth disease were criticised , by Dr J. A. Goodfellow, of Chesterfield, at th eannual meeting of the Pentrich, Shottie and District He.avy Horse Society at Ambergate, Derbyshire. "Surely," he said, "the time has arrived when attempts should be made to combat the scourg© by increasing the resistance of the cattle to fhe germs and virus invasion." Dr Goodfellow arged that farmers should make & greater use of iodine.
