David Niven To Get His Own Body Back
Young David Niven, British filrn actor, has got his body back — as a strange New Ycar's gift from his brother. e Five years ago, when Niven was "broke," he sold his body to a hospitai for dissection after death. They gave hira £5 for it, plus 30s because he didn 't smoke. Here is his brother 's letter, written from England to David in Trynon (North Carolina): My dear David, — I have taken your body out of hock, and it gives me great pleasure to retnrn yourself to yourself herewith. As no one else seems to want you, you may as well have yourself. "When I left the Army (I was with the Highland Light Infantry), I was broke except for my passage nioney to America," David told Reuter. "1 didn.'t want to borrow-from my family. Naturally I hated to admit my poverty to friends. There was only one thing to do — and 1 did it. I sold my body to the hospitai. ' T had to sign a pledge that I would never smoke to qualify for that additional. 30s. , "Now, thanks to my brother, I finally belong to myself again."
