WELLS BEATS ROSS
Alf. Wells proved too clever for tihe well-performed young North Queenslander, Toby Ross, in a 15-round contest at Brisbane Stadium last week. Wells, at 9.11, was conceding 101b. to a good husky scrapper, who recently lcro'd Vic. Baer. In the seventh, Ross landed heavily with a right to the head and, attacking fiercely, drovq Wells along the ropes, only to become trapped in a elinch. Over the last three rounds both men fought fiercely, and the crowd, welcoming the change, cheered lustily. Points in the thirteenth went to Ross, but the fourteenth and fifteenth rounds were slightly in favour of Wells, and it was to him that the referee awarded a pqpular-decision. 1
