Waipukurau School Committee Benefits from Larger Attendance

WAIPUKUEAU, Last Night. __ Advice that the Waipukurau School Committee 's grant had been fncreased to £257 8/- as a result of increased attendance figures, was received from the Hawke's Bay Education Board at the committee 's meeting last night, when the following members were present: — Messrs C. F. Haycock (chairman), J. White, L. Eenner, T. Spencer, F. Sayliss (secretary), and the headmaster, Mr Y. Parsons. A letter of resignation was received from Mr F. E. Ikost, ' and Mr J. A. Chambers was appointed to the committee in his place. Mr Eenner gave notice of his mtention to move that *the usual school excursion should be held on the most convenient day after the final exammations before breakiug-up. The headmaster, in his report, stressed the urgent need for a cupboard to hold library books now to hand, and the committee agreed to attend to this. The primary school roll was reported to be 383, and tho average attendance for the month. 359.9; the secondary roll 60, and the average attendance 60. Mr Cutforth, senior assistant ln the secondary department, left at the Easter vacation to take up his new duties in the Tauranga District High School, after being on tho staff for over nirie years, having acted as headmaste** on several occasions. Eegret was expressed at his departure. Mr Gray, M.A., is relieving.
