THE CHILDREN'S HOME

Trustees Appeal For Further Donations £500 SUBSCRIBED S0 FAR The /esponse to the annual appeal of the Hawke's Bay Children 's Home has to date totalled over £500, but this amount is a long way short of the sum which the trustees were asking the residents of Hawke's Bay to subscribe. When this appeal closes there will be uo further appeal for fuuds for general iuaintenance purposes for twelve uionths, and the trustees are- anxious to obtain sufficient funds to euable them to carry on the Children 's Home until the next annual aoneal takes nlace.

There are 110 children in the home, aud it will he realised that the suyi of £1500, if obtained, will be only a proportion of the expense of caring for these children, but if such sum is subscribed by thc residents of tho provincial district of Hawke 's Bay the balarice rcquired by the trustees will be made available from other sources. Easter coiuing early this year has no doubt caused a break in the interest of the public in the appeai, but 'iiow that the holidays are over the trustees com fidently ask for further donations. It is proposed when the amount is obtained to prepare a statement of what, has been subscribed from each area of the district. This statement wiil be published. Sympathisers are requested to forward ' their donations to the treasuner, Mr H. E. Edgley, Church Lane, Napier, as soon as possible, as it is desired to c.omplete this matter at an early date.

* Employees in the sports department of a London store one day ndticed that an electric cloek was slow at 2.32 p.m.; then they saw the hand suddenly leap forward and catch up. This happened again. Then they remembered there was "a horse called Flying Minutes entered for the 3.3 race. Not one paper gave it as a runner, but, being a super-. stituous, senlimental lot, they backed it. It won its three-mile race by m short head at 7 to 2. Always give a daily thought To the things you do or ought. Always feel and know at nigbt All you do is fair and right.
