Sudden Demands Due to Higher Freights (Eeceived 2, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, April 1. The recent improvement in freights have sent up the values of second-hand cargo shipsL In Manchester and here 9100 tons have been sold for over £40,000. A remarkable figure was paid for a 21-year-old vessel which would not have fetched £8000 a few years ago This was the Greek steamer Sylvia (3175 tons), which was Sold for £8300 for scrap.
