Further Postponement of Reopening . NAPIER-HASTINGS AREA The further postponement for z week of the ze-openlng of the schools in Hastings, Napier and contiguous districts has been decided upon owing to the continued prevalence of the infantile paralysis epidemic in this part of the province. In making this announcement thia morning the Mayor of Hastings, Mr. G. A. Maddison, who is also chairman of the Hawke's Bay Education Board, said that he had been in touch with the Department of Health- and that tho authorities had decided not to reopen the schools, as proposed, next Monday, but to keep them closed for a furthet week. "This applies to the schools in Hastings, Napier, Wairoa and the contiguous districts,,'' he said. "Porangahau and Bartlett's will reopen on Monday, and the other country schools in tho outlying districts will continue to remain open, with the exception of Wairoa, Frasertown and Kopuawhara, which will remain closed next week." The children of all closed schools are now to take the lessons which have been printed for the pupils of Hastings and surounding schools. The following, instructions have been issued by the Education Department: — 1. All work is to be done neatly and carefully in an exercise hook. These books will be carefully examined when the children return to schooL 2. The work is to be corrected by the parents, errors to be rectified by the pupils trad sums wrong to be worked out again correctly; 3. Where possible all work is to be done jn the pupils' own timo and under the supervision of the parents,, and work should commence at 9 a.m. 4. Wken spelling has beenf thoroughly learned a written test Is to be given by the pareiits and corrected by the parents. 5. Pupils whose ibooks are still at school may retum between 9 and 19 a.m. on Monday to obtaiii them*
