HORTICULTURAL MATTERS

The following were present at the mouthly meeting of the executive council of the New Zeala,nd Institute of Horticulture which was held at Wellington on the 24th instant: — Messrs F. S. Pope (president), J. A- Campbell, A. Leigh Hunt, A. McMillan, W. Hyde and G. S. Nieoll (Dominion secretary). A welcome was extended to and acknowledged by the recently-elected president, Mr F. S. Pope. Apologies were received from Messrs T. Waugh and W. K. Dallas. Congratulations were directed to be conveyed to Dr. J. E. Holloway, lecturer in botany at Otago University and uutil recently chairman of tho institute 's Otago district council, on his election as a Fellow of the Eoyal Society. The 1937 syllabus in horticulture, drawn up by the Cnaterbury district council of the institute for tho Christchurch Technical College, was received with appreciation for reference to the institute 's examining board. It was agreed that the annual conference held at Wellington on the lltli instant had been most successful and action on remits, resolutions, etc., was noted, and remits referred by the conference were dealt with.
