PIPERS ESCORT BRIDE AND GROOM AT RECEPTION AT WAIPUKURAU
Alder — ^Johnston Wedding Bowls of georgeous pink dahlias and blue hydrangeas, which had been arranged by friends of the bride, formed a lovely settmg in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Waipukurau, on Wednesday evening, March 31, for the wedding of Helen brances Alexanderfna, eldest aaughted of Mr and Mrs A. Johnson, Takapau road, Waipukurau, to Cecil Walter, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs C. Alder, Ongaonga. The Rev. W. R. Hutchison ofticiated at the ceremony and Miss M. King presided at the organ, playing the wedding marches. lvory satin beaute designed on classical lines was worn by £ke bride, who was given awhy by her fatlier. The skirt was fashioned with a gracetful train falling from the waist and the eorsage had a softly cowled neck with a row of tiny buttons at the back and hnished at th© waistline with a large satin buckle. The sleeves were long and tight-filalng. Her veil of tulle, arranged with a halo of orange blossom and miniature arum lilies fell formIng a second train and she carried a bouquet of cream and pink gladiodus and asters. The bridesmaids were Miss Ola McLean (chief) Miss Jean Johnston, sister of the bride and Miss Ailsa McLeod, uifice of the bridegroom. Their charming gowns were of pink georgette over satin made exactly alike. The skirts were fashioned with frilled inset-godets. The decollptage had a ruched neckline finislied with blue fiowers. The elbow sleeves were frilled and blue velvet sashes defined the waistline. Silver shoes were woi:n and pink and silver,headbands and they carried bouquets of pink asters with touches of blue. Little Gwendoline Sayless, goddaughter of the bride, made a charming hower-girl in an early Yictorian frock of pink georgette over satin. She wore silver shoes and headband and fcarried a posy of pink aud blue fiowers and heather. Mr Haldane, of Ongaonga, was the best man and Mr Mawson of Palmerston North, the groomsman. The wedding reception was held at the Masonic Hall, which had been decorated for the occasion with pink and blue streamers. The tables were attractively decorated with fiowers in the sanie colour scheme. On arrival at the hall the bridal party were piped to their table by the bride's brother, »Master Bob Johnston, to^ the strains of that old Scottish air, bcotland the Brave". The reception was a very jolly one, the usual jtoasts bemg honoured and the beautiful ibhreetiered wedding cake iced in cream, which was a gift from Mr and Mrs P. Pederson, friends of the bride, was much admired. The guests were reoeived by Mr and IHrs Johnston. Mrs Johnston wore a frock of navy floral crepe-de-chen© under a swagger coat, with hat, . gloves and shoes to tone and carried a bouquet of autumn-tinted fiowers. Mrs K. R. McLeod, sister of the bridegroom, was gowned in a smart frock of black lace with a black swagger coat and black hat. Her bouquet was autumn-tinted. When the bride and bridegroom left for their honeymoon, which will be a motor tour, the bride travelled in a floral frock over which she wore a coronation blue self-spotted coat having a baby-seal fur collar with hat, shoes and bag to tone.
