COIFFURES Changing
| The 1937 Hair Styles | ' MiifniifiiiiiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiifiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiijiiiiiuiiiiiHiiiiiiiiiiuiiniiiu^ (JOIFFUEES for 1937 are being planned to aid.tlie illusion of extra inches. The newest hair styles sweep up ward and towards the centre. Curling up the hair" is to be literally carried out as tbe curls will be so brusbed tbat 'they seem to -be swept up from tbe ears and nape'of the neck to_tbe crown of tbe head.
Tbe coiffure devised for tbis year and destined to make its debut at the same time as_ tbe new season's bats, is ingenious, for unlike many new f asbions, it is easily adaptable to suit different sbapes ■ of' •faces. Sborter and more curly, it can be "flufled" out at tbe sides to suit long faces, and dressed
away from" tbe ears to'become round' faces. Hair bows like -tbose worn by tbe pre-war schoolgirl are coming back " to fasbi'on, but for • grpwn-ups tbis tiine. Sometimes of glace silk, some -times • of- lame 'ribbon,'. th'ese bows are often mounted on elastic bands tbat are practieally invisible
becanse'; tHe elastic, made in many different shades, is so near the' colour of the- wearer's bair. For special evening oceasions, big bows of non-
. fragile, syntbetic glass are bighly ornamental wben poised on top of tbe head. This kind of "glass" material was used for hat brims last summer with some success. In tbe coming season we are
gofng to have some more unusual fabrics in millinery such as chintz, buttoned or quilted, and combined with silk straw. It is refresbing these days to see a woman with straigbt bair, demurely parted in tbe
centre and drawn to tbe nape ' of tbe ... neck, with . not a single > wave or curl to detract from its smootb sleekness. ■ One or two with .lovely dark bair are adopting tbe style, and some with fair or "in' between" shades have followed their lead, But, somebow, Madonna hair-dressing seems essentially for the brunette. A well-known eoiffeur has already made bis plans for coronation hair-dressing and, wbat is more, has booked a large number of appointments for days immediately preceding tbe ceremOny. He has introduced tbe "crown" effeet, wbic'b means brusbing tbe bair up from tbe back, tbe forehead and tbe sides, and arranging it in a coronet of curls on tbe crown of the head. Effective, but scarcely practical except for the languid lily woman who can spend minutes re-arranging . her hair after taking ofl; her hat. For others sometbing easier is needed. More moderate, and more beeoming,.is the coiffure in which large roll curls are eoaxed into position, instead of masses of 4 fluffy ones being allowed to trail over the head. A curl eomes ; diagonally from one side of tbe forehead to tbe other side of tbe crown, another be- • low it5 and still another, in step ■ formation, while on tbe other side two rolls only com» tbe diagonal parting. ,
