Large Numbers oi Cars on Main Highways Easter holidAy traffio reaChed reCord proportions on the Hawke's Bay roads. Streams of motor-vehiclee Were to be seen on every maln road, residents making the moSt of the four-day break to visit other parts of the island. A motorist Who is a regular nser of the roads informed a reporteF to-day that the number of cars and motorcycles he saw on the main PalmerstonNapier State highway on Monday was phenomenal. "I haven't seen such a volume of traffio for years," he remarked. "The only other oceasion I can call to mind when I say anything like the sam© processiofl of cars wa© immediately following the 'qUake in 1931." On the Taupo road also, traffio Was heavy, and a pati'ol officer of the Automobile Association (HaWke's Bay) said that the number of road-users on this highway was, in his opinion, a record. The tourist traiffic, hoth by train and motor, to Napier during the past week has been exceptioUally heavy. The increase over the road traffio of previous years has indeed been phenomenai. Much of this traffio has passed through Napier to various places northwards after stayiug a short time in Napier to inspect the towh's attraotions. No difficulty was experienced by thOse coming from or proceeding northwards in negotiating the Waikare slip, though it will probably be a month or bO before all the debris which came down in the slip has been completely removed. The visitors Who remained in Napier ov©r Easter speiit the tim© in visiting variotiS points Of ihtel'Cst, the RailWay Department's sight-Seeing trips being , well patronised.
