H.B. Party Causes Concern on East Coast
(.From
^GISBORNE, This Day. •Some concern has been expressed. on thle East Coast regarding the unexpected visit of a group of Hawke's Bay natives to Tikitiki, 100 miles north of Gisborne, for a religious gathering. The party ntlmbers between 40 an.d 50, and it is considered possible that it may have brought infantile paralysis infection into the East Coast area, though so far there have been no suspieious symptoms either among the visitors or among the host tribeB. | The party reached the Coast before the health authorities of the district were aware of their movements, leaving Hawke 's Bay before the health authorities cancelled the movement of Maoris for the hui at Nuhaka. Dr. H. B. Turbott, medical supervisor oi" the East Cape health district, endeavoured, with the co-eperation of the poliee, to prevent its close association with Maoris on the Coast, but these eflorts were unsuccessful, the natives from Hawke's Bay showing a disinclination to xetutn home ijnmediately, as was suggested. It is considered that the intexmingling with local tribesmen, which had taken place before intervention on the part of the medical autjliorities^ has made the ordering-home of the visitors useless, '
