MONDAY'S CHANCES Even Fields Engaged in Most Events REVIEW OF THE RUNNERS i
(%
The Easter meeting of the Waipukurau Jockey Club will be hejd on Monday, and eonsidering all the circumstances, the dry, hard tracks and the racing attractlons elsewhere, the aeceptance list must be consi.dered aatisfactory, with every promise of close and even ra4ing as the fields engaged are so even. The track is in fine order, although a little on the hard side. Betting facilities will be of the single pooL The- first race will not start before 11.30 a.m. Following h? a Teview of the runnera:— MAIDEN RACE Of £75; 6 furlongs. Allmetic Tecently met with a slight mishap and for that reason is not a eertain starter. In his last start he was third to Nereus and King's Hope, so, if right on the day, .he will have a chanee. Asset undoubtedly has pace but no stamina, and so on this ' ' up hill and down dale" track will not favour the six furlongs. Parry appears to have fully. recovered from his Pahiatua mishap and will go close on redeeming that defeat. Nothing here is gallppi.ng as well as Kiug's Hope. Ambius is an unraced five-yfiar-old gelding by Lord Quex from Sunny Houre (thus a haifbrother to Karl, but as he has not been up a great leugth of time he requires a race or two. .Grey Molly was second at Wairoa, but Winitangi has not yet ; raced- The other entrant, Clavercourt, has yet to earn a finishing place. It appears on form as if the betting wili be confined mostly to KING'S HOPE and PARRY. HATUMA HACK HANDICAP Of £85; 5 furlongs. It is the present intention of Tycoon's owner to reserve his gelding for the Open Flying. Hunter 's Morn goes fast and bae only to jump out weU to go very close, but his bad barrier manners prevent the utmost confidence being placed in him. Quake has been racing only so-so, and a win is long overd'ue. Fossicker is a smart galloper, and, although he is a light-framed gelding and .does not appeal to all, it can ba taken for granted that he is fit and well. Hunting Spy will be considered, but maybe the distanee is too ehort for MahaanuL Golden Time has speed and may upset calculations on thisi, her home track. Vienna, from Woodville, is reported to be smart. Three that may appeal most are FOSSICEIER, HUNTER 'S MORN AND GOLDEN TIME. • RUATANIWHA HANDICAP Of £100; 1 mile. Lucullus Lad has trained of? a little of late jnidging on his showings at Trentham and Pahiatua. If Skyway is brought back from Wairarapa, theu, with some, the sky will be the limit. Ythan fs not fancied on his Woodville running. Traetile has racing eondition, and if one considers the manner m which she won at Wairoa she must be fancied. Agog was second to Wananga at Napier, and then the latter went on to win at Wellington. Trailer is improving daily. Parry is contesting the Maiden, and on form Master Hector will not be overrushed. Providing Skyway doea not start, the favourite may come from either AGOR or TRACTILE. WAIPUKURAU CUP Of £150; li mile. Recent racing should now see the four-year-old Iliad horse Plato back to sometking like racing eondition. In the Rangitikei Cup, when not as fit as now, he led for a mile; so on that race will enter the calculations in this event. Passion Flower is not a ten-furlong mare, but in this grade should see the journey out. Snowball is reported as a doubtful starter, having met with a jarred joint. Soho would strip the fittest horse in the race, but he is not a eertain starter. Lucullus Lad is engaged in the previous race, while Lady Wessex and Tareha hardly appear class enougli. What will be better backed than SOHO, PASSION FLOWER AND PLATO? PUKEORA HANDICAP Of £80; 5 . furlongs1. Money Raid now carries 9.1 in this two-year-old event, and with racing eondition on her side she will attract attehtion. Felieitation has proved galloping ability, but when coming down to Hastings was not in a very healthy eondition and so may not be back to her best yet, as she has not been bustled, especially for this event. Golden Memory, by Gainscourt from Peep o ' Day, is a neat galloper, and if he has improved sinee his first run at Napier early this month this Danne-virke-owned gelding may surprise. Airini on the track last Boxing Day ran a eplendid race when up only 1 1 five minutes," so with the extra time inay now go even better. Tullamore was tiiijd at Pahiatiia. Enfin and Mary Rose, on track form, may be at a fair price, but not so MONEY RAID, FELICITATION and TULLAMORE. LADIES ' HANDICAP Of £75; 11 furlongs. Marching Song has won races of this description before, but maybe this Hunting Song gelding will not be too happy on the hard track. Should it rain, however, his chancet will be considorably enhanced. Umpira is tho right
cut of a horse for races of this description, but he has no recent form to help the isumming-up. Shrewd may surprise some, as recent track work does not point to the old fellow's being exactiy a "has-been." Tres See, if liandled better than he was last December, will be one of the hard ones to lash. Pikete is not starting. Rioghail and Taura Lad both have racing eondition in their favour, a factor to be recognised in amateur tiders1 races. Broad Highway hardly appeals, but Count Wiilonyx must not be counted out. Most investments may be made on TRES SEC, MARCHING SONG and SHREWD. PURIMU HANDICAP Of £80; 6 furlongs. Fossicker earlier in the day will have shown his warea, and as this double has often been won by the same horse Fossicker may add to their number. Nereus has a better field to contend with than at Napier Park. However, he must be considered to possess a fair chance. Recitation was left badly at Napier and no guide to his form was obtainable, but, dressed in his best, the president's gelding will be "in the swim." Mahaanui looks like doing better than in the five furlongs. Royal Solo is a very doubtful starter. Of the remaining trio Iddo reads best, but unless it Tains he is a very doubtful starter. The betting order may read: FOSSICKER, RECITATION and NEREUS. FLYING HANDICAP Of/£100; 6 furlongs. Plato has better performancee than any of the opposition. Seven furlongs of late does not appear favourable to Lavina. Padishah is not long in from a spell. Nothing will strip better than the consistent Tycoon. The big chestnut should go a great race. Gasman is well overdue, but it may be said that if he has a best distanee it is seven furlongs. Wasteland, on his Napier Park third to Sansfoy and Passion Flower, enters calculations, but Qualce looks likely to be the outsider of the field. Recovery may be looked to from PLATO., TYCOON and GASMAN.
