OBJECTS TO REMAND
Man With fiOPrevious Convictions "NO CASE AGA1NST ME" "I am only being locked up on my previous convictions. There iB no case against me," protested WHliam Adolphus Cunningham, ot Napier, labourer, when he appeared before Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Napier Magistrate's Conrt this morning charged with the theft of a pair of boots and a quantity of clothing from John Caravan. A remand nntil "Wednesday was granted. Detective-Sergeant H. Nuttall asked for the remand for further time to trace the remainder of the stolen pi'operty. The boots, he said, had been sold to a second-hand dealer, but the clothing had not yet been located. Accused: There's no need for a remand. There'a no case against me. lt's only a matter of iocking me up for a week. Detective-Sergeant^ Nuttall; This man is continually living in gaol, and he has only been out a few days. He has 60 previous convictions. He is a methylated spirits drinker, and when he was arrested Iast night he was in a frightful state, The remand was granted.
