WELLINGTON, Last Night. Replying to the Hospital Board critiCism of funeral directors for submitting What was termed an excessive tender for the burial of indigent persons, Mr. W. A. Wilson, chairman of the Wellington Provincial Funeral Directors' Assoeiation, states if the factn wero fully inquired into it would be found that the tender was not so much an overcharge as it was the hoard's unwillingness to pay adequately for what it considered necossary. As regards the fee charged by some clergy and to which the Ministers' Assoeiation took exception, he said no accusation was made against ministers as a body. There were some who demanded a fee and that heing go tho funeral directors included it in their tender which they claimed to be a fair and juet charge for necessary eervices rehdered no matter by what denomination. The Bishop of Wellington stated today that for many years the services of Anglican clergy at funerals had been free. The Diocesan Synod as long ago as 1911 rescinded the then existing regulation by w'hich a fee of 83 was chargeable.
