Dunedin Man Marries on Proceeds WILL GO TO GAOL

DUNEDIN, This Day. For eashing i'our valueless oheques, thereby obtaining money and goods to the value of £40 10/-, Arthur Middler. ton Leggett, aged 48, a labourer, was senteneed to six months' hard labour this morning. The police stated that the accused obtained cheque iorms and on Jauuary 12 iasued a cheque to a draper, who gave him elothing and £7 2/6 change- Thq game day he caslied. a clieque for 10 guineas with a j^weller, buying a wedding ring and receivipgi change. His subsequent offences were eashing cheques in ho+els. The accused had been twice married, the second marriage taking plftce while he was operating qn these cheques. His jseeond wife left him after a month, Tn sentencing him the Magistrate said he had cunvictions for forgery and theft and had a bad record. f
