H.B. PARALYSIS OUTBREAK Children Prohibited From Attending Theatres "NO NEED FOR ALARM"

WELLINGTON, This Day. The Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H- Watt, to-day made the following announcement in regard to intantile paralysis in Hawke's Bay:— "Qwing to the number of cases of infantile paralysis reeently reported in Hawke's Bay, it is obvious that the infection is f airly widespread. While it is not antieipated that the outbreak will be of a serious nature, it has been deemed advisable to put into force precautionary measures adopted in other places on the oecurrence of multiple cases. Thus schools have been closed in the infeeted areas, while the attendancO of children under 16 at pieture theatres has been prohibited. Stepe have also been taken to prohibit cextain gatherings and functions which had been set down for the Easter period, "Children shpuld not be exposed unneeessarily in public gatherings and shpuld not be allowed to attend children 's parties or functions of this sort. It is also desirable that people should restrict their movements so faX as possible at the present time and, in particular, that children under 16 should not be taken outside the area. "These measures ara purely precautionary and th.ere is no need fer auy alarm, The assistanee and co-operatien of the publie in the manner outlined will be weleomed by the department."
