• u lupv The Napier Horticultural Society' s monthly talk was given on Monday evening, when Mr Ken Merritt deaffc uith "Seeds and their Germination" This subject was treated ia a particularly lucid and interesting nianner, a liund oi useful information about seed germination being conveyed by Mr iVlerritt. who is a recognised authority on the subject.. There was a very large attendance, and it is gratil'ying to see -the increased interest being taken in the society by Napier's many amateur gardeners. Mr Merritt vvas accorded a vote °f thanks for his address. Mr D. Tannock, superintendent of pa-rks and. reserves, Dunedin, also gave on interesting talk on the aims and objects of the New Zealand Institute of IJorticulturists. There Avere 24 entries for the competitions, which rcsulted: Bloom, R G. Wilson 1, K. 11. Merrit 2, C. D. Wilson «3; best vase, Mrs M. Oxford 1, It. G. Wilson 2, Mrs Dr. Barnett and Mrs R. Holt equal 3. It was announced that the chrysanthemum show will be held towards the ond of April, and strong sub-commit-tees have been formed to tinalise arrangements. Schedules are now avail»ble.
