GOOD TIMES RECORDED

Th« waa dull and overcast but otherwise the conditions, were favouiabla for track work at Awapuni yesterday niornlng. The couraa prpper was available for fast work and the fiags wero well ovar to the outer fence. The going » yraa good, The prograaaao was a fairly in- > tezesting one and mnong the horses to register good timo were Dungarvan and Catalogue, both being engaged at the Feilding meeting, and Martara, who waa havlng his flnal work out before leaving for Auckland. Martara, who has ehanged hands andj :who was to have left for Aucklandj last evening, was galloped a mile andi his time, 1.44, indicated that it was. one of the best gallops over the dis-| tance ever xeeorded at Awapuni. j Martara 'a flutter took place at abonti ,11 bjdu and he was to have Silverj Biver ae a companion over the last sixj furlongs. Martara hopped away shorti of the mile and it did not take himi long to strike his balance. Chaplin, onj 'Silver Biver, w;as on the move as Mar-. tara was traveiling. Martara got aj two lengths' break on him and cut thej first three furlongs out in 39. Silverj Biver was going well by that peg but,j try as he would, he could not get anyj closer. Martara was clocked to runi the half-mile in 51, the five in 1.3 3-5,, the six in 1.17J and he completed very; strongly in 1.44. He was xidden by G.i •Tattersall and his effort, considering; that the flags were about 40 feet out from the rails and that he was requiredi !to cover about 80 yards over the mile,i iwas a really fine one. Martara pulled: jup well and he looked as if he had: jthoroughly enjoyed the work-out. There jwas an amusing incident when Tatterjsall rode him back to his trainer, G. W. iNew, who noticed, after he had had a good look xound the gelding, inat quite an appreciable amount of hair had been lopped from the tail. Martara was to leave for Auckland that evening but it, is obvious that someone conected with the stable had retained a keepsake of, a brilliant gelding. j Among the first to work were Gayj [Boy (C. Thomson) and Eonnd Score (S.t Anderson) and they were companionsl [over seven furlongs. It was a usefnli j work-out and Gay Boy had it on Bonnd' jSccre at the finish. Severe (Anderson) was galloped! seven furlongs and. she went very well throughout, finishihg solidly. Manawatu (Anderson) and Tribes-*; man (F, Bae) were companiona over ai ronnd, and The Crqoner (G. Tattersall|| and Bluffer (Anderson) were clocked toi run five furlongs in 1.5 4-5, the last1 three taking them 39 4-5. Aurora 's Love (J. Chaplin) scampered over three in 39$, moving attractively. Laughing Chief (Anderson) andi Kunting Lore (Tattersall) had a sharpi tussle over half a mile and Laughmgj Chief was a head in front at the posti after they had taken 53 3-5. Corroboree (B. Chisholm) was timed to run five furlongs in 1,4 2-5 and he Was going well. throughout. He is an-i ! .other Awapuni horse that has had skini jrubbed off in the float. Corroboree is inj |at Feilding and he will be ridden by J.I [Leach. j Dungarvan (Chaplin) was worked over a round. The pa#e was not on at the start, but he speeded up before he, reached the six and he came home in 1.18 1-5, the last four in 53 4-5, and he Was clocked to run the full distance in a tick under 1.54. He worked very. well and he was going very smoothly at: ithe finish. Cloudy Bay (D. Mansfield) was timed! jto run six in 1.21. Lactose (Tractor-Butter Scotch), ridden by Anderson, and Chat (B. Chis-: holm) followed and cut the distance out. in 1.22. Chat was clear when they turned for home and she was two lengths to; jthe good at the finish. Catalogue (Chisholm) was jogged jtound on the plough and then taken out on to the course proper to gallop a, imile. He went away to what was alimost a standing start and he ran the |first two in 28. The pace was really on ithen and he completed the full distance jin 1.47 4-5. It was a fine work out and Ihe finished well. Biding Engagements for Easter.
