CRASH INTO SEA

R.A.F. Pilot Missing at . Melbourne MELBOURNE, March 23. Pilot-Officer E. J. Eagerty, of the Royal Australian Air Force was drowned late this afternoon when a Bristol Bulldog dived into Port Phillip bay three miles off the Air Force depot at Point Cook. Eagerty was flying solo and engaged in shooting practice at aa aerial target towed by a Wapiti 'plane. He dived at the trget and the Bull-. dog failed to Tecover and struck the' sea and sank immediately. The Wa-' piti's pilot saw the crash and Teturned, to the scene but there was no sign of the pilot. R reconnoitring 'plane later saw thei Bulldog on the seabed in 30 feet of water. The Harbour Trust sent a hopperj barge to salvage the 'plane. Pilot-Offi-i cer Eagerty joined the Air Force in' July, 1934, and had completed training as a pilot officer.
