WAIPUKURAU SALE Store Cattle Prices Show Declme SH0RTAGE OF FEED
Small yardings in all sections were made at Waipukurau to-day. The market for quality ox "beef was on a par with late saies, but values for store cattle were down, due to a shortage of feed and the threatened continuation of the dry weather. The principal entry of ox heef, medium grown, solidly finished young bullocks, made to £11 9/-. In the store pens were a number of well-bred entries in very forward condition, which sold at values up to 10/- a head down on recent saies. The tops of these lines were well bred, and well done, the grown bullocks making to £9 5/-, 30-month steers to £8 2/-, 18month steers £7 5/-. Quality was lacking in the fat sheep pens, many of the ewes being not up to butcher's quality, and the main entries of wethers were very light- Several pens of larnbs were yarded, offering a wide range of quality. The best were woolled, heavy entries, which made to 22/3. Lighter lines- were down to 21d. The store sheep yardingi of ewes was the smallest seen for some time, being chiefly woollen lambs, shorn, medium grown, light finished, Down cross making 15/5. Reahsations were as under:— FAT SHEEP. Nine woolly lambs sold at 23/4. Two heavier and better finished lambs sold at 25/6. Three heavy prime quality ewe lambs sold at 27/3. Twenty-two light ewes, carrying agood slipe, sold at 17/6. A similar number or light, small grown early shorn wethers, met the market at 23/-. An entry of 12 shorn medium 'grown light finished black-face lambs, madc1.5/5. A splendid entry of prime quality, mixed sex, Down cross 2-ths. sold at 23/3. STORE SHEEP, On account Mr. C. Pattison, 200 wellwoolled white-face wetlier lambs, well grown, in light to medium order, met the market at 18/7. On account Speedy Estate, Burnview, 427 November-shorn fairly well-grown, white-face wether lambs, well bred, making a useful carry-over line, sold at 15/1. On account Mr. D. Finch, Whetakura, 140 small to medium black-face lambs, in good store order, sound, realised 16/2. A further entry on account Speedy Estate, 344 early shorn white-face wether lambs, smaller grown than the previous entry from this draft, realised to 13/7. FAT CATTLE. A single large-framed beavy aged Hereford cow, very plain finish and lacking quality, sold for £7 5/-. On account of Mr J. McCartin, Otane, 5 medium-framed rising 4-year-old Aberdeen Angus-Hereford bullocks, in prime order, having been solidly finished for some time, a fine quality beef entry, realised £10 17/6. On account of the same vendor, 7 medium-grown prime quality AberdeenAngus heifers, in good order, a splendid young beef entry, sold at £7 10/-. Also on account of Mr McCartin, six medium-framed Aberdeen Angus Hereford cross young bullocks, in prime order, been well finished, made in two cuts £10 18/- and £10 12/6. This pen should kill out at 7001bs. From the same source, 6 small-grown Aberdeen Angus heifers, in good condition, brought to £6 10/-. Two light-finished small to medium framed bullocks were passed at £8. On account of Mr W- Clark, Argyll, 8 well-bred Aberdeen Angus young bullocks, in very prime condition, being solidly finished and should kill at 750lbs. for the heaviest, made to £11 9/-. Five horned Hereford and Hereford cross small young bullocks, prime young beef showing good quality, sold at £9 10/-. Three small grown young dehorned Hereford bullocks, in quite good order, and finish, sold at £8 10/-. Two dehorned Hereford Jersey cross young, small-grown bullocks, in prime condition, solidly finished, made £10. A single extra prime quality medium grown dehorned,, Hereford heifer, showing fine quality and finish, sold at £8 10/-. On account of Mr J. McCartin, 15 well-grown, young Aberdeen Angus cross bullocks in very forward order, some on the verge of being fat and killable order, were passed at £9 5/-. On account Maulder Estate, 11 wellgrown 18-mths Aberdeen Ang-us steers, in very good order, sold at £7 3/-. On accdunt Mr W. Clark, Argyll, 8 well-bred and nicely coated Aberdeen Angus young bullocks, in very forward order, a useful oliilling proposition in a short period, met the market at £9 V--On account of Maulder Estate, 14 Aberdeen Angus Hereford 18-mths steers, in forward store order, a wellgrown line, sold at £8 2/-.
